Hello Everyone,
At this point, you’re probably wondering if there’s anything else we can do to kill the disastrous Republican Budget Reconciliation Bill. Here’s one more step we can take today or tomorrow morning that can make a difference: let’s put pressure on our governors as well as our senators.
WHAT’S going on and WHY it’s important:
Saturday night, Senate Republican leaders cleared a procedural hurdle allowing Trump’s Big Ugly Bill to go before the Senate for full debate. With Democrats calling for a line-by-line reading of the bill (happening right now), debating the legislation will likely begin tomorrow (Monday).
There’s one more lever of influence we can pull. Let’s encourage centrist governors to talk sense into their Republican senate colleagues. And let’s act fast!
WHAT we can do:

If you have a centrist Republican governor (like VT’s Phil Scott), pick up the phone. (Vermonters: Governor Phil Scott 802-828-3333)
Ask that they immediately contact US Senate Majority Leader John Thune, the White House, and other influential Republicans whom they know personally to express opposition to the bill’s harmful impacts on their state.
For example, key messages for Vermonters is that 45,000 people in VT may lose health care coverage and thousands more will go hungry, farmworkers will be deported, and we will have no help the next time the state faces floods.

Draft script:
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [Town/City].
I’m calling to urge Governor [NAME] to immediately contact US Senate Majority Leader John Thune, the White House, and other influential Republicans whom they know personally to express opposition to the bill’s harmful impacts on [NAME OF STATE]. Thousands of people in our state will lose health care coverage, thousands more will go hungry, farmworkers will be deported, and we will have no help the next time our state faces a natural disaster. From one human being to another, I’d like to know if Governor [NAME] really supports the devastation that this bill will cause our state. Given the scale of destruction and suffering written into this bill, silence by the Governor is unconscionable.

Call your Senators: Find phone numbers for your senators here. Vermonters: Senator Peter Welch: 802-863-2525; Senator Bernie Sanders: 802-862-0697:
If your senator opposes the bill, thank them.
Urge your senators to talk face-to-face with US Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Josh Hawley, and the other Republican Senators considering a “No” vote.
Using this information from INDIVISIBLE, ask them to be even more visible and vocal in pressing to stop the worst parts of this bill.
Urge them to also fight to save funding for US AID and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Stop The Rescissions Act of 2025, which slashes budgets for PBS, NPR, USAID, and other aid programs.
